Get MEGA-Traffic to your site!
If this doesn't help get hits PUNT!
The following is a tutorial on Search Engine Optimization:
Selecting your Keywords The first step in optimizing your site is selecting proper keywords.
Keywords are the foundation of optimization process so choosing the appropriate words is critical. Tips:
- Be specific. Due to the extreme amount of competition for general terms in the search engines, you have a much
better chance of receiving a higher rank with specific keyword phrases rather than general keywords. By choosing descriptive
phrases you will have less competition as well as have a more target audience.
- Know your audience. What would a potential visitor to your site search by to find your site? Come up with a list
on your own and then ask get the input of your friends and peers. You’ll be surprised at the different approaches individuals
take for finding the same thing.
- Do some investigating. Do a search using keywords that you already know you want to target and click through on
the top sites that come up. Once on the site view the source HTML code and view the keywords they have in their meta tags
to get some ideas. Viewing the source code of a site it easy, just click on 'View' at the top of your web browser then select
'Source', or 'Page Source'.
Meta Tags Including meta tags in your code is one of the most popular methods to optimize a
web site. Although important, meta tags alone will do little to improve the optimization of your site. Search engines factor
a combination of aspects when ranking your web site. When used in part with the other aspects described in this tutorial,
meta tags can still be effective. There are variety of recognized meta tags, however the two most important for the
optimization of your site are the Description and Keyword meta tags. Example: Meta tags are located
inside the <HEAD> tags of your HTML code. <META NAME="description"
content="Site description goes here."> <META NAME="keywords" content="keyword, keyword,
keyword, etc."> Meta Description Tips:
- 250 characters maximum. Description tags should not exceed 250 characters including spaces.
- Be precise. Make sure you accurately describe the content of your page while trying to entice visitors to click
on your listing.
- Include keywords. Include 3-4 of your most important keyword phrases at the beginning of your description. Especially
those used in your title tag and page copy.
Meta Keywords Tips:
- 1024 characters maximum.Keyword tags should not exceed 1024 characters including spaces.
- Be consistent with keywords. For best results use the keyword phrases included in your copy, title, and meta description.
- Use keyword variations. By using variations of your keywords such as plurals and common misspellings you can captilize
on similar searches.
Title Tags Your title tags are the single most important factor to consider when optimizing
your web page for the search engines. Most search engines and directories place a strong emphasis on the keywords that are
found in your title tag. Additionally, your title tag is also what the search engines usually displays when listing your site
in its search results. Your title tag should look as follows and belongs inside the Head tags of your page. Example:
<TITLE>Your Title Tag</TITLE> Tips:
- 80 Characters maximum. Your title tag should be no longer than 80 characters long.
- Don’t overdo it. We recommend that you include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases in the title tag,
but don’t just list keywords. Search engines view this as spam.
- Make your title enticing. Use interesting titles that will make potential visitors want to check out your site.
- Be original. Try to use unique titles for each page on your site relevant to the page that it appears on.
Headings Simple Heading tags can also be used to improve your site's optimization. Search engines
assume that "headings" are very closely related to the content of the page that they appear on. By using headings in addition
to cascading stylesheets you'll be able to optimize your site while still maintaining the current look and feel of your site. Example:
<h1>Heading Text Goes Here</h1> Heading tags come in four sizes (H1,H2,H3
and H4). Tips:
- Use keywords. Include your most important keyword phrases in heading tags.
- Organize to optimize. Breaking up copy may not only be easier for visitors to read, but also allows you to utilize
heading tags.

Press Release - PRWEB
Can Viral Marketing Beat Search Engine Optimization ?
Wed Mar 23,11:49 AM ET
A viral traffic feedback loop can be set up in a few minutes and supply a constant flow of targeted traffic for years. In
contrast, getting and maintaining a good search engine position takes considerable expertise and time.
(PRWEB) March 21, 2005 -- Is viral marketing the best way to bring customers to your web site? By viral marketing I mean a
system that, once started, achieves exponential growth without ongoing intervention. We'll look at how to achieve that in
a few moments, but first we will see why search engine optimization may not be your best choice.
Why is search engine optimization not the best source of free, targeted, traffic? Since everyone's time is worth money, generating
targeted traffic using search engine optimization is far from free. Getting traffic for phrases that will convert well into
sales almost always means beating competitors for that phrase. That means doing a lot of work to get a good placement. Worse
yet, you need to do a lot of ongoing work to keep a good placement.
A far better approach is to set up a viral system of building traffic. You may already have tried one or more of the "viral
traffic" building programs available. Why didn't it work for you? Because they aren't truly viral. They promise you great
results if people sign up under you. They can even deliver those results if enough active people sign up under you. But the
only people they help you to reach are those who have already signed up for their program, so no one signs up under you. Because
no one signs up under you, the program doesn't work.
There is an easy way to solve this problem. I call it a "viral traffic feedback loop", and I'll show you step-by-step exactly
how you can set one up with just 20 minutes of your time and a tiny budget. I'll also show you a simple, hands-off way to
make a profit from the resulting traffic. The essence of this approach is to get members from one viral marketing system to
sign up under you for another system.
Step number one. Sign up for the first viral traffic program. It gives traffic to members when they visit the websites of
other members. Just as important is the fact that it gives credits for referring new members. Just sign up here:
http://tinyurl.com/59cxd
Step number two. Sign up for the second viral traffic program. It requires everyone who becomes a member to look at six websites.
Don't worry, if none of the sites interest you, you can see all six sites in as little as two minutes. You sign up for the
second viral program here:
http://tinyurl.com/6fqdb
Step three: Create you own custom version of this article. Get a copy from: http://netinstitute.com/viral-traffic-feedback-loop/
Use the "view source" feature of your browser to see the page's html code. Copy the html code into a simple editing program
like the MS Windows notepad. Replace " http://tinyurl.com/59cxd " with your referrer url for the first viral program. Replace
" http://tinyurl.com/6fqdb " with the URL of your marketing web page for the second program.
By the way, this article is covered by copyright. I am explicitly granting permission to change the two referral links, but
you are not permitted to change the rest of the article.
Step four: Put your custom version of this article online. If you don't already have a website, your can get free hosting
from:
http://netfirms.com
Step five: Promote your custom version of this article. One way of doing this is to buy traffic from the first viral program.
If you choose this method, a one-time purchase of about 5,000 credits should be enough to get the feedback process started
and the traffic growing on its own.
If you are very patient, you could just change the homepage setting in your web browser to your start page for the first viral
program and eventually earn the necessary credits for free.
Step six: Wait, and watch the traffic grow. Once your promotion has resulted in at least ten signups for each of the viral
programs, you should see rapid growth is both traffic and signups without any further promotion.
Any valid method that gets enough webmasters who are hungry for traffic to see your custom version of this article should
work, but of course you must not send unsolicited emails or use other spammy tactics. To do so would damage my reputation
as well as yours.
Step seven: Cash in. Once you have established a steady flow of traffic and a constant stream of sign ups, how do you make
money? The traffic generated by your viral traffic feedback loop consists of people who all have one thing in common. They
all want to get a lot of inexpensive traffic to their web sites. One simple approach is to sign up as a Pro member for the
first viral program. You then get paid whenever someone you referred purchases a Pro membership. Another approach is to use
some of the traffic from the first viral program to promote Perry Marshall's free AdWords course. Signups to the free course
convert very well into sales of his paid courses. You can sign up as an affiliate using the link near the bottom of this page:

Hyperlinks Adding text based hyperlinks is an easy way to improve your listing in the search
engines. Search engines assume that if you are linking to something from your page whatever it is you are linking to is likely
to be closely related to the content of your page. Since your site most likely already has many hyperlinks already on it,
optimizing them is a fairly simple process. To optimize a hyperlink include your most important keyword phrases in the link
itself and the surrounding text. Example: Check out DownTownPublishing's Web Hosting memberships Resources Tips:
- Link keywords. Try to include your most important keyword phrases within the hyperlink itself. If you can not link
the keyword, the text that immediately preceeds, or follows the the hyperlink is also a good spot.
- Don't over do it. Be careful not to over do it. Make sure your links and surrounding text are still readable and
make sense after you include a keyword phrase or two.
- Use stylesheets. Using stylesheets you can create hyperlinks that appear the same as the rest of your text (the
same color and without underlines).
- Don't "Click Here". Avoid links that say "Click Here" or other catchy action phrases. Instead try something like,
"Click Here to View Product X" as your linked text.
- Map it. Site maps are a great way to create links on your site and give users another way to navigate your site.
Alt Tags for Images Adding Alt tags to existing images on your site is another way to improve
your site's optimization. Within <IMG> tags are image text based description called Alt tags. Alt tags are a great place
to include keyword phrases about the image. Example <IMG SRC="image.gif" width="10"
height="10" alt="Image description goes here."> Tips:
- Keep descriptions short. Descriptions should consist of a a brief sentence or two, avoid anything longer.
- Include keywords. Be sure to use the keyword phrases that you also used in the copy of your page, title tag, and
meta description to describe the image. We recommend using no more than 2-3 per image.
Page Copy Optimized page copy typically separates the good sites from the great ones. Improving
page copy is a very effective and often overlooked method of achieving better search engine listings. Just like a
visitor to your site would read the copy on your page to figure out what you have to offer, the search engines do too. The
only difference between a visitor and a search engine is that a search engine assigns value to keywords when it “reads”
your copy. Tips:
- 200 words minimum. Pages need to have at least 200 words of copy to be effective.
- Include keyword phrases. Text should include your most important keyword phrases, but should remain relevant.
- Add content heavy pages. Pages such as how-to articles, tips or tutorials not only help educate visitors, but their
copy is also search engine friendly.
What Not To Do
The following is a list of things you should NOT do to enhance your position.
Search engines can detect these tricks and penalize those who use them.
Tips:
- Don't be tricky. Do not do anything to trick the search engines into listing your site better. If what you are
doing is not listed as one of our search engine tips the search engines will likely view it as spam and penalize you.
- Don't list keywords. Do not blatantly list keywords anywhere except in your keywords meta tag. There are very few
legitimate reasons that a list of keywords would actually appear on a web page or within the page's HTML code and the search
engines know this.
- Don't hide text. Use the same color text on your page as the page's background color. This is a well known trick
and it is easily detected by search engines.
- Don't use identical tags. Never use multiple instances of the same tag. For example, using more than one title
tag.
- Don't create identical pages. For example, do not duplicate a page of your site, give the copies different file
names, and submit each one.
- Don't resubmit within 24 hours. Never submit the same page to a search engine more than once within a 24hr period.
